Commercial Real Estate and Natural Disasters – Is This the New Norm?

Unprecedented destruction caused by wildfires & earthquakes has plagued California in the last several years. From 2016 to 2018, the average number of billion-dollar disasters in the United States totaled 15 each year, while the average 1980-2018 was just 6.2 events per year. The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration claims the total cost of 2019’s hurricanes, wildfires, floods and other disasters was about $45 billion and over the last decade, costs exceeded $800 billion from 119 separate billion-dollar events. FEMA estimates 40% of businesses that close their doors as a result of disasters will never reopen.

Join us for an informational session on the impact of CA wildfires, earthquakes and other natural disasters on commercial real estate. Our expert panel will provide updates on the aftermath of the 2018-19 fire season, what impact the twin earthquakes in Southern California had on commercial real estate, changes you need to be aware of in the insurance sector, case studies, and updates on government ordinances and seismic retrofitting.
